SIOUX FALLS, SD – Lost&Found is proud to announce the hiring of Nathan Hofer as its Regional Director. Nathan will provide day-to-day support and advising to Lost&Found’s current chapter footprint in South Dakota and future chapter expansion in the five-state region.
Hofer brings an outstanding track record of developing student leaders at the campuses Lost&Found currently serves: the University of South Dakota, South Dakota State University, University of Sioux Falls, and Dakota Wesleyan University.

As a student-focused organization, Hofer will critical guidance to L&F student leaders, as well as chapter advisers and advisory boards, as they deliver resilience programming, outreach, education, and training on campus and in their surrounding communities. Hofer’s role will encompass several areas of chapter operations, from marketing to impact strategy to event planning to fundraising and everything in between.
“I have a passion for developing students and walking alongside them in the good times and the bad,” says Hofer. “In my previous roles, I’ve frequently been placed on the front line in times of [mental health] crisis, and I’ve worked to build webs of support for students at each institution I’ve been a part of. I’m so excited to be able to continue that work in supporting Lost&Found student leaders, advisers, and advisory boards. My hope is make L&F both incredibly impactful on the campuses we serve, as well as something that is both fun and inspires passion for all of our members.”
While new to the organization, Hofer is a recognizable presence in higher education in eastern South Dakota. Hofer brings over 10 years of experience in student affairs, advising, and residential life, serving all four universities where Lost&Found currently has a presence. Hofer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Science in Student Personnel Counseling, both at South Dakota State University, and while at SDSU, Hofer served as a Graduate Assistant advising and teaching students, as well as serving as Interim Director of Upward Bound.
Hofer then spent two years as Director of Student Activities and Residential Director at Dakota Wesleyan University, a one-year stint as an Assistant Director of Student Life at the University of South Dakota, and the past five years as the Director of Student Activities at the University of Sioux Falls. Hofer also brings extensive experience and networking with the National Association for Campus Activities, most recently serving as Northern Plains Regional Conference Programming Chair. No matter the role, Hofer has focused his efforts on student wellness and development, something Lost&Found sees as a tremendous strength.
“Nathan is the right person at the right time to join our organization,” says Executive Director Erik Muckey. “His direct connection to the current campuses we serve, along with his student development focus and incredible energy are just the thing Lost&Found needs as we launch our new resilience programs. In his part-time role, Nathan will bring much-needed direct support to Lost&Found’s student leaders and advisers in ways we haven’t been able to provide before. We are excited to receive Nathan’s leadership, passion, and commitment to student development in this era of new growth for Lost&Found.”
Hofer grew up in Freeman, South Dakota. He currently resides in Sioux Falls with his growing family while serving Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. as its Membership Coordinator.
