The L&F Advocates program trains students to better understand and care for their own mental health, equips students with tools for resilience and advocacy, and reduces the stigma of mental health on campus.
What is the program?
The L&F Advocates Program is designed to help students gain insight into their own lives, learn skills to help them navigate college life, and learn new skills related to helping professions. Students also learn how to safely tell their own mental health stories, which can be empowering for the students personally and also helps fellow students and other young people navigate their own struggles by hearing these stories.
What’s in it for me?
Students will gain skills to advocate for mental health, learn coping skills to navigate college life, and gain valuable insight into the helping professions. This program is perfect for students interested in psychology, sociology, social work, and human development. You’ll build critical skills that will assist you as you complete college and enter the career field. Most importantly, you’ll help fellow students by sharing your own story. Students who participate in all sessions will receive the official designation of Lost&Found Advocate.
What do I have to commit?
Students will attend a total of six 90-minute sessions throughout the academic year. These sessions will be held via Zoom. Students who successfully complete these sessions will also have the opportunity to complete a short-term advocacy project on their campus.
Each component of the curriculum will include a “Telling Your Story” exercise that will help participants learn how to tell their stories in a healthy way and encourage others to do the same.
Each student will complete a short capstone project as part of their experience. This project can be completed at any point during the spring semester of their enrollment in the program. The student leadership team and L&F Campus Coach will mentor students through this process. Some examples of projects include:
